Wasps U15's vs London Irish

An early start and fine weather, if not a little windy welcomed the U15s this morning. We were hosting a friendly against London Irish after many attempts over the years to get this fixture in the calendar.

After a quick change of boots for some of the players on both sides due to a particular ref the game got underway. Kai opened up the scoreboard with an immediate try from the starting whistle. Two more tries in quick succession and it looked like wasps were going to rout the opposition. Felt like a carbon copy of the Wasps Exeter game but with our U15's taking the lead. At this point the irish worked that their backs had speed and some good set pieces and began to put us on the back foot. the continued good running and our lack of coherent defence gave them a score just before half time. 15-5

London Irish came into the second half with the wind behind them and they were not going to let wasps rest. A combination of their strong running lines and Wasps poor handling and passing gave London Irish the scores they deserved. Too often our defence blitzed when it should have drifted and the boys in green had overlaps or Wasps left holes for them to run through. London Irish scored three tries in quick succession.

Nate at full back played one his best games to date and made countless try saving tackles and often got the ball out of trouble after the Irish kicked over our gain line. Thankfully the Wasps boys made some great runs and we had tries from Kai, Alex and Jordan. Definitely work is needed to get our boys to play more cohesively, as there were some great individual efforts but had Irish exploited our weakness the score would have been very different.
