Wasps FC 2XV suffer another defeat in the league against local rivals Actonians. The visitors made the stronger start and crossed early for a converted try to take a 7–0 lead. Actonians continued to apply pressure and added a penalty goal shortly afterwards, extending their advantage to 10–0.
Wasps responded brilliantly through Kieran McKevitt. A sharp attacking move, created by good work from Sam Parker, put McKevitt over for Wasps' opening try after 20 minutes. Although the conversion was missed, the score reduced the deficit and gave the home side momentum.
Actonians struck back with another converted try to move further ahead, but Wasps again showed their resilience. Bryans Osuku-Opio crossed on the half-hour mark following another well-worked attack, narrowing the gap once more.
The visitors then added an unconverted try before the interval, but Wasps finished the half strongly. Matt Pearson powered over in the closing stages to secure Wasps' third try of the afternoon and leave the score at 22–15 in favour of Actonians at the break.
Knowing the next score would be crucial, Wasps started the second half with intent. Jake Lovell-Hewitt crossed in the 50th minute to bring Wasps firmly back into contention and set up a tense final half-hour.
The comeback continued ten minutes later. Tomas Furness produced the final pass to send Rui Monteiro over for Wasps' fifth try of the afternoon, before adding the conversion himself to bring the hosts within touching distance.
With momentum seemingly swinging towards Wasps, Actonians demonstrated why they remained a threat throughout. The visitors scored two further tries during the final quarter, both converted, to re-establish breathing space on the scoreboard.
Despite a determined finish and five tries of their own, Wasps were unable to close the gap completely and had to settle for a losing bonus-point performance.
There were plenty of positives for Wasps to take from the game. Their attacking play regularly troubled the Actonians defence, with five different try scorers getting on the scoresheet and strong contributions throughout the side. On another day, a few key moments could easily have swung the result the other way.
