The last match of the year was a good one. Although the original oppo scratched, a friendly against a team placed 2nd in Div 1 was not to be sniffed

With a Wasps team with 8/9 first teamers out and a Sarries team with 9/10 first team players missing the match should have been a close affair. This was certainly not the case for many reasons.

The first of these is quite simply that Wasps have amazing strength in depth. Not only did every single player step up to the mark, but they also managed to play to the usual competitive, heads-up style of rugby which is the hallmark of a fantastic squad, a fantastic age-group, and great spirit amongst the all the 45 boys who have turned out for the club this year.

It was clear early on that the Wasps back line had the beating of a weakened Sarries set of backs, but the Wasps pack shorn of many key players: Zico, Luke, Charbel, Ben, Jae, Jack, etc. was going to find the game a bit tougher. The players coming in all showed that they 'have what it takes' and it was all the more impressive, then, that the first try came through the pack (well, I say, "through the pack", but really it was simply one man mountain against a whole team) with a great score by Benedict. From then on it was great 15 man rugby. The ball went through the hands and many players got on the scoreboard with some fantastic running rugby.

Sarries kept plugging away and scored right at the end of the first half to give them due reward for their fantastic efforts. Well done to the Sarries players and parents who kept things going fantastically well and in good spirits.

Although both teams went down to 14 players due to injuries, there was no let up from Wasps who were determined to keep playing the rugby they have been training for all year. This was a delight to see and the Colts who were busy having a tough game on the neighbouring pitch are really looking forward to playing some rugby with this fantastic age group.

Well done to all the boys who have turned out for the club this year. We are VERY excited about running three excellent sides next year: U17A and U17B in the leagues, and Colts for friendlies running throughout the year.

We said farewell today to Harold Lafaurie who showed again what we will be missing next year. Great skills, strength and excellent decision-making. We're delighted that he could score on his final game for Wasps. Don't forget Harold: Once a Wasp, Always a Wasp!
