We are looking for an individual who will be required to attend all home and away matches and
provide medical assistance to the home and visiting team.
As well as match day duties, the individual will need to be contactable during the week for advice
regarding player medical needs as required. Job share will be considered
Mental Health Lead (the first point of contact for players and staff who wish to speak to a healthcare
practitioner within the club in respect of mental health, wellbeing, or mental health issues).
Duties:
• Co-ordination of the clinical care for players (and where appropriate club staff) requiring
reactive assessment or treatment for mental ill health.
• Leadership of the MDT team coordinating the care of players (and where appropriate club
staff) requiring assessment or treatment for mental health issues.
• Ensuring there is a clear structured process in place to ensure the appropriate care is available
in a club setting and/or externally as required.
• Ensure appropriate processes are in place for handling confidential patient information.
• Be accessible to players and staff both when they are at the club & away from the club.
• Co-ordination of the development and implementation of core and club specific wellbeing
monitoring processes.
• Co-ordinate medical services delivered during a game
• Lead on on-field match day injuries, blood and HIA.
• Completion of all players concussion awareness.
• Medical management and record keeping of all pitch side kit and drugs.
• Record keeping and updating on RFU system and lead in conjunction with lead medic on player
referrals and surgery.
Completion of following CPD:
• Mindset – A mental health resource for Team Doctors
• Concussion Management for Elite Level Match Day Medical Staff
• Medical Protocols for Match Day Medical Staff
• Keep Rugby Clean
• Keep Rugby onside
• Completion of RFU’s AP15 concussion protocols and real time video review training for match
day medical staff
Person Specification; Your application will be reviewed against the essential and desirable criteria
listed below.
Essential Criteria:
• Evidence of being listed on the GMC list of registered medical practitioners with a license to
practice.
• Evidence of ongoing engagement with appraisal and revalidation, with evidence that the Lead
Doctor role has been discussed through appraisal output.
• Current Professional Indemnity Certificate, or evidence of current Professional Indemnity
Cover, and evidence that the insurer has been informed of the exact nature of the doctor’s
role.
• Attendance at all home and away matches.
• Provide flexible cover for injury and / or medical assessment, anticipated 4-8hours per week
– can be provided remotely via phone / online.
• Certificate of completion for each of the specified World Rugby online modules.
• Sports Medicine experience.
• Completed the RFU specific PHICIS (pre-hospital immediate care in sport) or equivalent course
(Ability to attend this via support from Wasps if you do not currently hold this qualification)
Desirable Criteria:
• In possession of a post-graduate Diploma or MSc in sport and exercise medicine.
• Attends a minimum of 2 RFU organised CPD sessions in the season. One of these must be
attendance at the pre-season workshop.
Reports to: Wasps Women’s General Manager and Clinical Medical Lead
Hours of Work: Such hours as necessary to carry out your duties. This will involve working outside
normal office hours at evenings and weekends and on Public Holidays.
Location: The normal place of work is the Wasps FC, Acton, however you may be required to travel to
and work at other locations, to satisfy the requirements of the position including but not limited to all
Home and Away games.
