Wasps 2 Wasps

Wasps 2 Wasps

Lachlan 'Jok' Dunbar9 May 2017 - 06:43

23 riders, 170km and nearly £10,000 raised for the three charities, KLS UK, Children with Cancer UK and Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation.

When we first had the idea in September, I had no idea how awesome a group of people would come together.

It was a huge challenge to cover the distance with a time constraint and on open roads. You all rose to it with a tenacity and amazing good will, smiles and good humoured banter all the way. I was only sworn at once which in itself is quite a challenge and even that was with a smile, thanks Mr. Rigby!

Considering the distance covered it was fantastic they all finished in good time, my only regret is that you didn't all get to ride in to the Stadium together, we will have to think of a way we can make that happen next year.

Now for some thank you's!

Netta Murray
For providing the porridge and never ending support at Twyford Avenue

Richard Green
Essential support through it the recent months and at the pit stops, endless bananas, driving the van, kit and bikes back and for for sponsoring the whole event through Ski France and Summer France

Carl at Chiswick Van Hire
For lending us the van free of charge for the weekend, the ride wouldn't have been possible without it.

Chris Finch of Finches Cycles, Reigate
Although surprisingly not a single flat and only one mechanical issue that unfortunately was beyond the resources available he was hardly needed, but we all felt a lot happier having him there.

Kasey Allen
The ever smiling pit stop manager, always helpful and with never ending energy and optimism.

Glen Kieran
Practical and technically sound advice, always at the end of the phone and willing to ensure i hadn't completely gone wrong by driving the route twice.

Ricky Hill
As Roger so nicely put and I quote "What a top dude. We saw you hedging off the impatient and dangerous drivers and we know you went, found recovered several of us the wandered off course. Thanks for directing us and saving us from unnecessary kms.”

Peter Scrivener
For recruiting so many legends onto the ride, for meeting and greeting at the Ricoh and for your tweeting and social media chat.

The Wasps FC Cycling Club (WFCCC - founded 2017)
This ride was conceived to mark the 150th year of Wasps FC, a club we all have an emotional attachment to. As is typical of rugby related events, what started as a simple challenge has ended up being a team event, you have raised a significant amount of money between you for three great causes. Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation, Children with Cancer and in particular I am particularly grateful to you all for supporting the charity that funds research into my sons ‘disease’, KLS UK. He awoke on Saturday morning and was overwhelmed to hear how much had been raised and achieved by you all. This wasn't meant to be a personal crusade but thank you all for helping raise money and awareness.

Tell your friends and let me know if you would like to do it again next year.
