Rugby World's Bea put through paces with Wasps Ladies

You may think that all rugby reporters are unfit, overweight, and incapable of raising a pint without gasping for breath.

There may be some who fit that profile - but they're not all like that.

Rugby World reporter Bea Asprey is one journo who is definitely neither unfit nor overweight, but she decided to put her body to the test last night, when she attended a fitness session with Wasps Ladies, at Twyford Avenue.

Under the supervision of Fitness and Conditioning Coach Richard Tidmarsh, she was put through a gruelling hour in the gym, which took in weights, press-ups, and various other tough routines, including something with a very thick rope!

At the end of the session, she declared herself 'pretty pleased' with how she'd done. "It was quite tough. The girls are quite strong - certainly a lot stronger than I am. I do a lot of running, some boxing and mainly CV (cardiovascular) stuff. But I never really do weights, which is probably why I regularly get injured. So, when I come along to things like this, I feel very weak. I've been trying to turn over a new leaf, but it never really works!"

Bea's session at Twyford Avenue has whetted her appetite for more of the same. "It's great to do circuits, and it's also really good to work with a partner. It helps with enthusiasm and motivation."

Bea's training partner on the night was former Scotland winger Lynsey Douglas. She was impressed by her performance. "She was very good. She kept saying beforehand that she was really nervous about it, but she really showed us that she's as strong as we are."

Richard Tidmarsh also gave Bea the thumbs up. "She survived, which was the first objective, and she had a smile on her face for most of the time. Going into the gym with top players will certainly give her a bit more journalistic insight. Hopefully, she enjoyed it. She certainly looked as if she did."

Watch out for Bea's own thoughts about her session, in a future edition of Rugby World.

What position did you say you play, Bea?
