Wasps FC is looking for an enthusiastic and well-organised Rugby Coach & Colts Manager to take responsibility for our Colts squad for the coming season.

Wasps FC is one of rugby’s most historic clubs, with a history stretching back more than 160 years. Many players have progressed through the Colts into senior and professional rugby, with a number going on to international honours.

The Role
The Colts comprise approximately 30–40 players aged 16–19, with mixed abilities ranging from developing players through to strong county-level players.

The successful candidate will:
• Take overall responsibility for organising and managing the Colts programme.
• Coach and manage the group from late August/early September through to mid-April.
• Organise a proper, structured coaching and development programme for the season.
• Run training on most Sundays and manage the squad for Sunday fixtures.
• Prepare and manage teams for matches, including the National Cup.
• Encourage Colts to join appropriate Thursday evening training with the senior men’s section.
• Work closely with parents and coaches, and the club’s senior teams coaches to create a clear pathway from Colts into adult rugby.
• Introduce players to senior training at the appropriate time and help them make the transition into senior rugby once eligible.

Player Development & Progression
A primary objective of the role is to transition young players successfully into senior rugby.
Wasps’ senior teams provide opportunities at a range of levels. The 1st XV plays in Middlesex County Division One, with further senior teams providing rugby at levels below this.
We want to:
• Help our strongest Colts progress towards 1st XV rugby where appropriate.
• Provide equally good opportunities for players whose natural next step is the 2nd or 3rd XV.
• Keep as many young players as possible playing rugby at Wasps after Colts.
• Support exceptional young players who may have the ability to progress into professional or academy rugby, using the club’s extensive network of contacts within the game.
• Ensure that players who ultimately choose to continue their rugby elsewhere leave Wasps having had a positive experience of the club.
Success will therefore not be measured simply by Colts match results. An important measure will be how successfully players develop, enjoy their rugby and progress into senior rugby – particularly those who remain and play at Wasps.

The Candidate
We are open to two types of candidate:

Qualified / Experienced Coach – Paid Role
For a suitably qualified or experienced candidate, this will be a paid position. Candidates might have:
• Level 3 coaching qualification or an appropriate UK-recognised overseas equivalent.
• Significant senior-level coaching experience in the UK or overseas.
• Professional or high-level rugby coaching experience.
• A strong background as a high-level player.

Developing Coach / Manager – Volunteer Development Role
We would also consider an enthusiastic candidate who may not yet have the formal qualifications but has some good rugby/coaching experience and, importantly, is an excellent organiser and manager of people.
For the right volunteer:
• The position would initially be voluntary, with occasional expenses paid.
• Wasps FC would support and fund their coaching development.
• This could include Level 3 coaching, Strength & Conditioning qualifications and other relevant coaching courses and qualifications.
• The objective would be to provide a genuine pathway towards becoming a fully qualified senior coach.

For either route, we are looking above all for someone who is reliable, organised, enthusiastic, good with young players and capable of taking ownership of the Colts programme.

Where two candidates or more are otherwise equally suited to the role, preference will be given to someone who is also able and willing to play for one of Wasps FC’s senior men’s (or women's) teams.
