Derek Warby 1952- 2023. Wasps 1972-1977

We have some sad news to pass on which is that Derek Warby , fly half and centre three quarter, died last week at his home in Somerset following a long illness.

He played for London/SE Schools, Loughborough and Wasps before he left teaching to join the RAF for whom he also played in the Inter Services Tournament.

He played in the Wasps team which lost narrowly to Llanelli and may others.
He taught PE at Gunnersbury School for two years after Loughborough where Rob Lozowski was captain of his Under 15 team.

He became an elite parachute instructor with the RAF and was awarded the OBE and MBE for his service which began in 1977.

He went to St Nicholas Grammar School in Northwood and used to live in Eastcote.

He leaves his wife Jo and four children.

He was a top player and a great bloke and he will be sadly missed.

Details of his funeral will be shared in due course.

Saturday 3rd June 2023 at 2.00 pm in:- The Chapel, Memorial Hall, Kings College, Taunton, TA1 3LA.

There is room for a large number of people, plenty of parking, and will be the same place for light refreshments afterwards.

The Family are opening a "Memory Book" and everyone who wishes to, will be encouraged to contribute, even if they cannot attend.

DP has been asked to co-ordinate numbers of those wishing to attend, so would ask that you email office@waspsfc.co.uk accordingly.

His cremation, will actually be on Friday 2nd at Taunton Crematorium, but only for Family and very close friends.

For those wishing to stay overnight on Saturday, there are plenty of hotels or inns in Taunton or Wellington, which is near by.

You may pass this information on to anyone who might wish to attend, or contribute to the Memory Book.
