Thanks to all the players and parents who made the trip to 'Sarf London’ for the triangular fixture against Battersea Ironsides and Ealing.

For the second away trip running, all the players should be proud of how well they represented Wasps.

Wasps’ C team played two long and hard fought matches against Battersea Ironsides' C team. In the first game Wasps were a little slow out of the blocks and had some bad luck in the first half with two interceptions and another breakaway putting us 3-0 down at half time. In the second half the players showed tremendous spirit, working very hard, and as a team, to pull off an impressive comeback. Four unanswered tries gave us a 4-3 win!

In the second game the Wasps players (who were a little short on subs!) pretty much ran themselves to a standstill, tackling bravely and then attacking with some good direct running - a few more passes perhaps wouldn't have hurt! The team ran out well-deserved winners, two tries to nil.

Among the forwards, Edward Stein ran very strongly and scored a good try, James Langguth tackled like a demon and Aengus Drennan had his best game so far. Behind the scrum Hamish Ritchie was on good form, clearing the ball well and poaching the winning try in both games. Hugo Oglina pinched the ball in contact many times and ran well, Oscar made some good passes and Daniel Miller and Gianluca both made some important tackles in defence.

Much to work on of course, but a good effort all round.

Wasps’ B’s played a well organised BIRFC first and lost 4 – 0. A couple of errors let in the first tow tries, then the Ironsides well drilled forward dominated game plan of playing up the middle on a narrow pitch resulted in a couple more.

The boys picked themselves up again for the Ealing match which was evenly matched. Wasps scored first with an excellent try by Ben Collis, who was not to be denied, and there were a couple of great breaks by Sam and Cameron. Joseph and Freddie combined increasingly well whilst Paul Duarte, Thomas F and Ethan made themselves known around the park. Ealing increasingly came back into the game and eventually levelled it to draw 1 – 1 all, a fair reflection! Good fun was had by all and thanks to Ironsides for making us feel so welcome.

Wasps’ A’s played Battersea in their first match. Through no fault of the kids, Wasps started with a couple of players out of position against an extremely well organised (honest) Battersea team who played a well drilled forward-dominated game on a very narrow pitch, with Battersea going 1-0 up in the fist half. In the second half, Wasps raised their game and played the better rugby. The whole team were fantastically committed and aggressive in defence throughout, and were unlucky not to get an equalising score despite putting the Ironsides under tremendous pressure throughout much of the second half.

In the second match, after some hard, committed work between games especially on rucking, a re-jigged Wasps team faced our local friends and rivals Ealing, historically one of the strongest teams in the county. It was a breathtaking game of rugby. The (honest) Battersea reference said it was possibly the best game he had seen all year.

It was a great (honest) all round show by the Wasps forwards, with probably the best committed rucking we have seen that looked like the real thing at times. The rucking was so impressive that William found himself with the ball in space much of the time, and he gave the rest of the backs some great, quick service.

Gianluigi was on fire both in attack and defence, Stan was a wild man in defence. Lewis played powerfully in the scrum; Billy was as committed and tough as ever.

The backs played well throughout, despite having very little space to work in and despite a very committed, aggressive Ealing defence. There was some great, strong running from Josh, another good all round game from Tom despite being under constant pressure and good support from Sam Allen and Darius. Wasps eventually won a hard fought game 1-0, although they could have had a couple more.

All the players played well and should be proud of their performance, however once again, the players were their own toughest critics as they know they can play even better. See you at the weekend!
