Wasps fall short in Darlington

Round Four of Allianz Premier 15s saw Wasps travel up to The Darlington Arena to face DMP Sharks. Wasps were looking to build on past performances showing moments of total resilience. With conditions sunny and overcast, Wasps went to work.

Wasps started brightly gaining territory and enjoying the lion's share of possession in DMP's 22. The first action of the afternoon came 15 minutes in where DMP managed to control possession well and ship the ball out wide where they found Rachel Ehrecke who touched down in the corner. DMP came to life after their try but was met with outstanding defence from Wasps. Working their way to a turnover they managed to successfully exit. At 31 minutes DMP found a line which invited a break from Meya Bizer who managed to run in for their second, 10-0. On the cusp of half time, DMP found themselves in Wasps 22 where Kathryn Treder went over from close range, 15-0.

Half Time Score - DMP Sharks 15-0 Wasps

As the half began Wasps looked to build on positive play from the first half. Four minutes in Wasps found themselves deep in their 22, off a strike play DMP found Kenny Thomas-Roberts on a light who managed to beat defenders and go down in the corner, 20-0. As the game entered the final 10 minutes DMP found themself in space to ship the ball out wide right finding Kathryn Craine who touched down. Two minutes later Wasps found themselves just outside the DMP 22 where multiple phases of well-worked play resulted in a ball spread out wide to Kirsty Hillier who sprinted in a fantastically timed try for Wasps on debut. In the last minute off the back of a well-worked move out of their 22 Wasps had a pass outside intercepted. The interception was regathered in the air and played down to Linzi Taylor who managed to beat defenders to touch down for DMP, 30-5. With positives to take from the match, the togetherness in the group is strong as we move on to Gloucester-Hartpury next week at The Alpas Arena.
