John Edward (Ted) Woodward, Once a Wasp, Always a Wasp

John Edward (Ted) Woodward, Once a Wasp, Always a Wasp

Dom Benson18 Jan 2017 - 06:08

It is with great sadness that Wasps mourn the passing of Vice President, Ted Woodward, one of our real legends who played wing for Wasps and England.

Ted played 15 times for England

Ted passed away on Monday, aged 85. Ted played 15 times for England on the wing between 1952-56 and scored 6 tries and a penalty goal. For Wasps FC he subsequently moved to number 8. His grandson, Jack Wallace, played professional rugby briefly for Wasps. He currently plays for Bristol RFC.

There is a lengthy article by Joe Hall about Ted on: World Rugby Museum: from the Vaults, Red Rose Stories: Ted Woodward from a year or so ago.

Funeral arrangements: Ted's funeral will take place at Amersham Crematorium on Friday 3 February at 1045 followed by a celebration of his life at Denham Golf club. No flowers please, but should you wish to make a donation we will be setting up a "just giving" page with all donations going to the RFU injured players association, details to follow.

The main contact is Eddie Laxton, Secretary of Wasps Golfing Society, of which Ted was President.

Rest In Peace, Ted. Once a Wasp, always a Wasp!
