Jo McGilchrist wins 50 caps

Lynsey Douglas12 Mar 2013 - 17:42

Wasps Ladies and England lock Jo McGilchrist marked her 50th cap with a try against Italy in England’s 34-0 win at Esher RFC.

In a return to winning ways for England Jo opened the scoring just seven minutes in when a switch between Reed and Hannah Gallagher enabled England to break through the centre of the visiting defence. Large gained ground before releasing McGilchrist to dive over.

Before the match England coach Gary Street said, “Jo McGilchrist is a world-class second rower and with her moving into her natural position, this gives us the opportunity to mix up the backrow.”

Good luck to Jo and fellow Wasps player Toya Mason as they play Wales Women this weekend in the final round of the Six Nations.

Elsewhere Wasps Ladies have been successful in winning an ‘England Call Up’ in a competition to reward deserving club members run by Lucozade Sport.

In her nomination of Wasps Ladies 1s captian Tina Lee, Steph highlighted that, 'Tina always gives 100% whether it be in training or the full 80 minutes on the battlefield. Her performance and positivity influences and encourages others to step it up where it counts the most. She is a highly valued team member and respected by both squads and coaching staff’

The prize was two tickets to England v France at Twickenham, 20 cases of Lucozade sport and 10 drinks bottles.

Action will return to the Women’s Premiership on Sunday 24th March as Wasps Ladies 1s face top of the league Worcester whilst the 2s take on Cheltenham, both matches taking place at Twyford Avenue.
