The camp was organised by the Irish Rugby Football Union. Hugo toured Ireland at the start of the season and played against Connaught in Galway and against Munster at the famous Garryowen club in Limerick. Hugo, and the team, acquitted themselves well, drawing with Connaught (5-5) but losing to Munster. (15-32)

The Irish Exiles are the ‘5th’ province in the Irish representative structure and selection for the team enables Irish qualified players to be selected for the Ireland Clubs U18 and U20 national teams. Hugo qualified for the Irish Exiles through his grandparents on his mother’s side who originated from County Kerry.
