The Big Swarm returns as Wasps host Bristol Bears in the final regular season game of the Premier 15s. After a crucial victory over Gloucester-Hartpury last weekend, Wasps will want to build momentum as they head into the playoffs. With a large crowd expected for the day filled with action, the home side will want to make sure they get the job done on the pitch.
Wasps secured fourth spot in the Premier 15s last week at Kingsholm, so are safe in the knowledge their playoff spot is already booked. They will want to end the regular season on a high and look to maintain the momentum they established after the Six Nations, knowing they face Saracens in two weeks’ time.
The hosts have made just two changes to the starting line-up that sealed a 47-20 victory last weekend. In the front row, two legends of the game exchange places as Rocky Merchant-Clark starts at prop, with Claire Purdy (Sponsored by JHA Recruitment) moving onto the bench.
Alongside her in the front row, Hannah West marks her 18th start of the season, the only player in black and gold to have started every game this season.
In the backline Kendall Templeman comes in to join club captain and try scorer last week, Kate Alder (Sponsored by PSB Industries).
Lizzie Goulden, who passed the 100-point barrier last weekend with 17 points from the boot, retains her starting spot at fly-half. She, alongside Hannah West, are the only two players to have featured in every regular season game.
The fixture is the return leg of the opening day of the Premier 15s, as Wasps put five tries past Bristol Bears at Shaftesbury Avenue. Bristol are in sixth place in the Premier 15s table and have shown good form of late. They picked up strong wins over Richmond and Worcester, and a very narrow loss to league leader Saracens.
The afternoon promises to be filled with action on and off the pitch. The Big Swarm is an event for all the family, with three top quality games of rugby at Twyford Avenue, a fan village with a number of fantastic options for food, a player Q&A post-game, live band and bar open throughout the day.
You can be part of this fantastic occasion, with the rugby starting at 13:00, building up to the Premier 15s clash at 15:00. Tickets are available in advance and on the gate for just £5, with U16s going free.
