Firstly, appreciation must be given to the Drifters for their generous hospitality on the day and, in earlier seasons, for their contribution to Zach and Callum’s rugby development.
Congratulations also to Ben, Isaac and Guy who were called into the A Team line-up and performed superbly.
Wasps showed their strength and depth in producing a largely one-sided win on the day.
Alfie started the scoring with a 30m speedy run through the middle. Next up was Benedict pounding out yardage and David making several deep penetrating runs and good off-loads to take Wasps deep into Drifter’s territory.
Try #2 was scored by Ben showing ballet like balance in pirouetting into the try zone. With momentum clearly with Wasps, George scored a further try.
Alfie had the toughest of tasks on this conversion as the ball was touched down in the left corner and the wind was howling. From the 22m line, and reading the strong wind gusts to perfection, Alfie kicked a conversion that started wide and bent with the wind to split the uprights, giving competition to the very best of Jonny Wilkinson’s kicks.
Continued strong play from Wasps in all aspects kept the outcome in no doubt. Joseph scored a further two tries with strong runs up the middle. Jae and George combined to also score a try in between Joseph’s efforts.
Altogether, Wasps ran in 6 tries and Alfie kicked 5 successful conversions to produce a confidence boosting 40 – 0 win. (or was it 45-0 nobody seems sure)
