Lessons to be learned

Wasps U13A V Hertford A (Friendly) at home

Sunday 18 November 2012

Match1: Wasps A V Hertford A

This was a lesson on how to make big runs, find the gaps, pass the ball and close Wasps down, immediately from the first whistle. Hertford were physically bigger and more athletic than Wasps, and did everything you would expect from a Middlesex division 1 team against a division 3 team. Wasps fought valiantly, but were lacking confidence, as the tries came thick and fast. We did not put them under any sort of pressure and seemed content to defend but not attack, and even then, only 50% of our boys were really making the tackles that counted. We were generally winning our scrums and line outs and the opportunities were there, but we failed to take them, by losing the ball. The second half was better and for a brief spell we actually wobbled their composure, and they started making mistakes. Hertford scored 6 tries in the first half and 3 in the second. A number of Wasps players took some hard knocks. It was good experience and hopefully we will be a better team for that experience.
Final score: 54:0 to Hertford
