A winning performance

Wasps U14A v Barnet Elizabethans U 14A Sunday 23 March 2014 Away
This was our last league match of the season and an away win would secure our promotion to the next division of the Herts Middlesex League. We had our full A team revving to go, with seven or eight boys on the bench. Fab murmured with a big smile, just before kick off, that this was a strong Wasps squad.
It was a sunny day with a chill wind blowing down the pitch. The match kicked off at about 10.30.
The two teams flew at each other, with Wasps getting the upper hand in the early minutes. John was the first to score three minutes after kick off. Barnet came back 5 minutes later to equalize. This was quite a ferocious match with both teams hungry to get over the gain line, with some brutal work from Vlad and his fellow forwards. It was evenly matched and produced some of the best rugby I have seen all season. Both teams were passing well and contesting the rucks with vigour. Wasps had to defend their try line several times, after giving away penalties on the five metre line, and showed immense courage making some crunching tackles.
Something had to give, and Wasps managed to wriggle past Barnet in the twentieth minute, with Mark scoring our second try, following some impressive team work. For once we were not hogging the ball, but shipping it out fast to our very able wings and centres. Just before half time, Isaiah on the wing, scored our third try, with Wasps now starting to get the upper hand. The score at half time being 15:5 to Wasps.
The second half started at the same frenetic pace with no let up, with Barnet scoring and converting early in the half. Barnet seemed to start taking control with their coaches screaming orders, with just a little more determination than Wasps. However, their very good inside centre then went off, getting injured in a ruck, Big Isaiah got into his stride and scored, converted by Charlie. The fizz started to evaporate from Barnet and Wasps started to swarm all over them, with some good tries from Louis, converted by Charlie, Lamonte, Bryn and Isaiah. The bench came on towards the end of the game, and Barnet had nothing left to offer.
A very good team performance, with our league season ending on a high.
Final score: Barnet 12: Wasps 44
