The ying and yang of U14s rugby: disappointment and optimism in a symbiotic relationship.

The was the best all-round game played by the U14s, reflecting a more settled squad, good captaincy from Alfie and pack leadership by Ben, and a set of boys keen to improve. Tring are worthy of their position in Division 1 and Wasps were keen to show that they also deserve to compete at this level. The match didn't disappoint with Wasps running into a lead within 2 minutes of kick-off, and maintaining this until the last 2 minutes of the game.

Rucking was much stronger than previously - it seems that the training is beginning to have an impact on play! Tackling has also improved immeasurably with star turns in tackling from George Rivet, Alfie Studd, Jed Allen and Sam Cunningham. Our line out didn't quite have the fire of previous weeks, but the scrummaging was once again rock solid.

The backs were very good up the middle of the park, but Tring's very quick defence meant that the ball never seemed to reach our pacy wings. This is something that we are going to have to work on: our attacking line never seems to have enough depth.

The team spirit and commitment to the cause was absolutely fantastic. The boys can be proud of themselves as they showed their skills and strength at this higher level. Although this was a loss, the team accrued two points, one for scoring four tries, and the second for being within 5 points of the winning team.
