Despite an early lead Wasps missed out to a much improved home side

Having gone ahead through an early try it wasn't long before we were two points down due to a converted try. The team produced a lot of grunt and effort and managed to score again to secure a tough final quarter of an hour. Datchworth scored two quick tries near the end resulting in a flattering score line to them.

This was a near full strength Wasps A team playing a team a division below and we were shocked to end up on the losing side. There were some good reasons for this, including most notably, losing the ball in contact and being rucked off the park. These are things that we have to remedy to compete at the higher level.

On a positive note, the team was moved around a lot for the second half giving the selectors some real head aches. Zico played well at prop and competed well in second row together with Ehize who had a quieter game, but managed to scare the opposition with some barnstorming runs. Conor had a great game at scrum half, applying further pressure on the incumbents.

Zach has played every position in the scrum except hooker (I think) and showed that he is an excellent prop as well as a back five player.

George stepped up well from the Bs and provides real competition for the other back row players who also had a good game; Sam C and Callum gave their all . Benedict once again proved that he is a force to be reckoned with where ever he plays as ball carrier and ball snaffler. Benedict had a number of penalties against him but these were definitely due to the ref, not the player. Emmanuel and Sam T both hooked well and our scrum was strong throughout, Ammer is a true loosehead prop. The pack was excellent led by Ben who, together with the captain, Alfie, continues to show leadership qualities.

The back line are terrifying but simply did not have enough ball and lost it a bit too often in the tackle or by dropping the ball. Adeola was eager and hunted the ball all over the pitch. Omari had a strong running game and also made a number of key defensive tackles together with Jed, who virtually split their full back in half with a fantastic chasing tackle. David and Alfie and now clicking in the midfield and Archie and Hugh both had strong games in the middle of the park.

Things to work on: ball retention; quick ruck and counter ruck.

Joint Man of the Match: Benedict, Omari and Adeola.
