Friendly, anything but friendly!

Wasps U14 V Barnet U14 at Home
Sunday 23 February 2014
This was a friendly, although this description was a bit of a misnomer, as it was a rough tough game with several injuries. Wasps had to borrow a player at the start from Barnet, as we were short of front row players.
The game kicked off at 10.30am on a muddy but playable pitch, on a cold windy day. Barnet went straight into the lead within 3 minutes after winning the first scrum, followed by a long kick with a following wind down the pitch. This was a tactic that was repeated several times, Barnet had some stocky boys and some backs with pace. A lot of pressure was put on Sean at full back.
However Wasps pulled themselves into some sort of shape, stole a line out from Barnet, won the subsequent ruck, passed to big Isaiah who proceeded to storm through the defence, taking a diagonal path at pace which was too much for the Barnet defence to cope with.
5 minutes later we won the scrum against the head, and Isaiah scored again. Isaiah’s hat trick was then completed just before half time, with the score at the interval 15:5 to Wasps. Conversions were almost impossible due to the blasting head wind.
The second half was a little different, as big Isaiah came off, and Charlie in the front row was injured, so scrums were uncontested. Tempers flared at times, and the game became gritty. Barnet were first to score early in the second half and ten minutes later Bryn made one of his several big runs down the wing to score.
In conclusion the game was quite even for most of the time and the league match against Barnet next month should be interesting, as Barnet are mid placed in division 4 just below Wasps.
Final score: 20:10 to Wasps
