Another Win! Wasps U 14 maintain their unbeaten record with an emphatic performance

It started under a grey sky but at least it was not raining. We had plenty of time to
warm-up and to train which all players did with a lot of dedication as the
KO was postponed to 11:20. Called by the referee, our players took their
positions on the pitch. Not before having received the last pearls of wisdom
from their coaches. I do not remember everything that was said but capture a
few "enjoy the game" and "that's the right time to play champaign rugby". It
seems that the last words would resonate for the whole game.
Again, as a very poor reporter, too absorbed in the game and observing what
our players were doing I forgot to write down who scored the first tryŠthen
the secondŠ.the thirdŠ.the fourthŠ.and the series goes on until the ref blew
his whistle at the end of the second half. 9 tries scored, one converted.
Final score: 48-0Š.for Wasps. Don't be fooled by the score. The opposition
came close to scoring tries in a few instances and our try line remained
unviolated thanks to the good defence put up by our players. And what the
score falls short of illustrating is the way the game was won. There was
determination (with several devastating runs across the gain line and very
effective rucks), there was commitment (very strong and dominating scrum and
rucks, some very good tackles performed by various players), there was skill
(with in several occasions pattern moves brilliantly executed, quick
recycling of the ball, good support runs). The last try of the game probably
embodies the sort of game we watched: Wasps were attacking from a set piece
10 to 15 m from the opposition try line, the quick recycling of the ball and
the unfolding attacking move was about to be countered by a speedy run from
the defence. Cleverly, Charlie kicked above the rushing defence, followed
his kick to recuperate the bouncing ball on the try line and scored the last
try of the game (following the ones scored by Louis, George, Fin, Vlad, and
others). "Champaign rugby" we saidŠ
