A massive win for Wasps!

Wasps U 15 V Cheshunt 25 January 2015

Today we were blessed with ok weather. It was not too cold and the pitch
we played on was perfect. The few take-aways from this game won by Wasps
(33-0 with a bonus point to the home team):
* the score does not reflect the overall quality of the game we saw which
was much more balanced than the points tell. It was very tense with a lot of
ball carrying by Forwards and Backs from both teams. The visitors spent some
time close to our try line and they put a very strong defence when we were
threatening their try line more than once; commitment and heart were
overflowing and both sides!
* Focusing on our squad two or three things
are jumping to my mind: first of all, if I were asked to say who played well
and a bit less well I could not. All the 22 players played well with a lot
of energy and commitment. Yes some balls were dropped and we saw a few lucky
passes (did not we talk about those in the changing room) and dropped
tackles but I must say that the level all the players played at was
homogeneously good, everyone contributing and pulling his weight; there is a
great satisfaction there. Secondly, we saw a lot of ball carrying and
recycling with Backs and Forwards equally involved with some strong support
and many advantage line crossings and sharp running lines and support. I
felt that during the first half and a significant part of the second half we
were building our rugby. Thirdly, our scrummaging was good (even if we could
improve) Now there are a few points we need to keep improving: in the LO we
lost a few balls not so much because of the throwing than the catching. We
must be sharper and more reactive there. And the second point we need to
work on is the rucking. I have stopped counting at one point the number of
balls we lost allowing our opponents turning the ball over and collecting
too many penalties. It was not dramatic today but we definitely need to work
on those and address them.
* Finally, as the game was very engaged we suffered a few injuries. Alex I
hope your bleeding has stopped. Omar, how are you doing? We will have to let
you rest for a while but let us know how you are doing.
Overall, a very nice win to which all have contributed beyond the tries
scorers (Isaiah and Co!).
