The wins keep coming

Wasps U15 V Bracknell

Sunday 01 March 2015
This was a friendly against a Bracknell Development Squad, although I understood they had a couple of A players in the team. It was intended to be a work out for our own players who had not had a lot of game time so far this season, due to the age group having a lot of players this year, but not enough to put together two teams.
The game kicked off on a soft muddy pitch at 1pm and Wasps immediately put Bracknell under pressure in their 22. Although not having the territory, Bracknell gave as good as they got and kept most of the possession, and put up a resilient defensive fight with several breaks. The first 15 minutes was a tough confrontational battle of strength and skill, with some hard hits on both sides which left a couple of bloody noses and semi concussed boys. It looked as if this was not going to be an easy game for Wasps.
Wasps then got into gear and started to show their superior skills and speed. Our no 18 scored 16 minutes into the game and Vlad, the captain, duly converted.
James then made a gazelle like run (surprisingly fast for a big lock) on the left wing to score 5 minutes later. Oisin followed with another try 5 minutes on, and by half time the score was 17:0.
Bracknell were bowed but not beaten at this stage and it was very physical.
Amari scored within 2 minutes of the opening of the second half, followed by Luke a couple of minutes later. It then started to become a bit of a rout with further tries from Jordan, Bryn and Charlie, plus a couple of others, our number 16 and number 11. Wasps were instructed to go a bit easier to make a game of it and some of our better players came off.
Midway through the second half, the game started to deteriorate in terms of sportsmanship and Wasps were guilty of some unsporting behaviour both on the pitch and from the touchline.
Bracknell were awarded a penalty try after a messy maul on our try line, and a Wasps player was yellow carded for a late tackle, which resulting in the Bracknell player limping off. The referee warned any player on either side continuing to swear, would be sent to the bin. The referee took firm control of the remaining quarter of the match.
Bracknell should not be underrated and they had some big lads with hearts of lions, and kept pushing hard until the final whistle.
Final score: 51:07 to Wasps
