This was a game played at higher pace and with better execution than the run out from the previous week. Great strength on show from the pack and fantastic skills from backs.
A penalty in the first few minutes was slotted over by David Bull and then Ehize's Ehizode try and conversion gave a very good buffer for the remainder of the first half. A fantastic handling move resulted in a David Bull try and we went in at half time with a 17-0 lead. Jack came on at half time and played fantastically at tight head against a very strong scrum.
The second half was a tenser affair as for long periods Wasps were rucked off the ball by a very well drilled Welwyn set of forwards.
Ehize added another barnstorming try and once Omari got in on the act with two late tries we ended up winners with a well-justified scoreline.
Coaches and supporters thought that this was one of the most enjoyable matches we've seen for a long time.
Strengths: off loads, general handling skills, making hard yards. Back line defence was excellent (again). Some major individual efforts from a few key players.
Points for improvement: winning the ball at the tackle, rucks, releasing the runners earlier and not always taking the man on.
Tries: Ehize (2), David (1), Omari (2).
Penalties: David (1). Conversions: David (4).
Man of the match: Ehize Ehizode
Mention in despatches: Benedict White. [back on song]
