The rain abated, the sun shone and the U16s gained another bonus point to put the team back at the top of their league with maxium points

Wasps, Bedford, Hitchin; the three best teams in the league; with two of these three playing clearly all players were up for this match knowing that a victory would maintain the push for promotion and league victory for the winning team.

A full squad of 22 arrived in good time and selection was tricky - what a good position to be in. The first half was simply awesome: wave after wave of forward pressure resulted in tries for Charbel (2) and Benedict, and then at the end of the half the backs finally got in on the act and Celton crossed to make the score 26-0.

Six changes at the start of the second half made little difference to the momentum and the backs (now keen to get involved) managed a couple of quick tries (David and Brandon). Further positional changes resulted in some loss of momentum to allow Hitchin to score a few tries at the end. At the final whistle it seems that the wasps players were a little downcast reflecting their very high standards. They should feel proud of what they achieved and focus on some of the positives: amazing ball retention, massive hits and unbelievable forward pressure.

There are some things to work on (isn't there always?) and we will endeavour to do so in training. Mostly the lessons are to do with decision-making and not skill, technique, power and pace (we have an abundance of these). Motivation and commitment were also exceedingly high, so the final piece of the puzzle that would have made this the complete performance is the decision making in the heat of the game. Play broke down too often when an early release of the outside the runner would have ensured continuity, and there were some strange kicking options and loose play inside our own 22.

Keeping this going is our motivation, and improving on our performance is the goal.

Mentions in despatches: good to have Jae play in a league match. Welcome back. Great to have a well-taken try from Brandon who is improving week on week. Fantastic brace of tries from Charbel. Who says props can't score? Nice to have Lewis start a league match and perform well at wing and fullback. WHAT FANTASTIC STRENGTH IN DEPTH.

The match was watched by the colts and many parents and other supporters: all were amazed, impressed and some were even surprised at the skill levels and the intensity of the match. Let's keep it up.

Tries: Charbel (2); Benedict, Celton, David, Brandon
Conversions: David (4)
Man of the match: Benedict for a storming first half that set the tone for the whole game.
