18 hardy souls made the long long trip to Hertford. A few of the parents recalled the last time we visited the shores: a loss to Hertford and we were relegated to Division 2. That was a long time ago and memories of losses tend to last only as long as it takes until you get even.....

Hertford are a fine defensive unit. Wasps played the leach and ruck effectively for the first 10 minutes, wore out the opposition and opened the scoring with a great try by Guy who was making his league debut for the As. Further vicious pressure from the pack produced spaces out wide and allowed David in for a fine score. Hertford were not done, and they plugged away.... tackled hard... and eventually got to within the Wasps 22 and scored a good penalty. A nicely-worked try followed and at half-time the teams went in 10 apiece. At no stage did Wasps look like they should lose the game and the half-time talk focused on our strengths, playing to these strengths, and making our possession count.

The second half started with a bang and led to three great tries: Benedict, Matthew and Harold all crossed with pace, power and skill. Hertford came back with a score near then end, but the final tally of 29 to Wasps and 17 to Hertford was a fair reflection of the game.

This is a team that is improving and is strong and fit. The relentless first half pressure tired the oppo and is directly what led to the three second half tries. Lineouts were fantastic (how many opposition lineouts did George manage to win?!), scrums were awesome (Charbel and Ben are the meanest props in the league) and our defence in the backs was outstanding. All players did much to be proud of, but mostly, and most importantly, the team played as a team.

All agree that Guy had a great game playing the full 70 minutes; Leo once again was great cover at hooker for Jack (neck) and Sam (back), and Harold cemented his role in the squad. Brandon is beginning to compete at flanker as well as in the backs.

As an improving team, all players need to maintain their commitment to each other and to personal fitness - we can all see how much it counts.

Three wins, three bonus points, and no losses means that we will go into the Christmas season top of the league..... let's finish at the top as well come Easter!

Tries: Guy, Benedict, Matthew, David, Harold
Conversions: David (2)
