Congratulations to Wasps' U11 - runners up in the London Welsh 'A's' festival.

It was a meeting of some classy looking teams who had been bussed in from around the country. The opposition were London Welsh, the hosts, Salisbury RFC,Chipping Norton RFC and Llanishen RFC a club based in Cardiff. Wasps played very good consistent and structured rugby with bursts of flare and brilliance.

The head Coach for Salisbury RFC, no slouches themselves, said
"Wasps are a really cracking side, a class above the teams we usually play. Good individuals who play as a team and their captain (Tom) has excellent command and control skills" (I think must have been in the RAF).

After the well observed 2 minutes silence the games started. Our lads saw off London Welsh 35-0, in the first game. great tackling and passing game that saw plenty of action for both wings the speedy, try scoring, Cameron and the hard tackling Max. Lewis scored 2 tries, Tom 1 and Sam 1. All great team passing moves from the solid base supplied by the forwards. It's always good for team confidence to play the home team and win.

Next was Chipping Norton a good team who have beaten us in previous
tournaments but not this time 14-7 spoilt their day, Great ripping and
focused play from Gianluigi, Tom again kicked all the conversions. He must have have got some tips from Johnny W the day before at Twickenham.

Next were Salisbury, a well drilled team, who gave all the other teams a hard match. Wasps players didn't give way with some heroic and impenetrable defense, over half the second-half of the game our boys where defending on their own try line. Paul, as usual, putting his body on the line for the team, A very close game with some great play from the pack that ended in a 0-0 draw.

All the pressure was on the last game against, the very passionately coached, Llanishan, who had driven over from Cardiff that morning for the festival. Wasps needed a win to secure the festival win on points, a draw wouldn't do. It was a mainly defensive game except for a few breaks, a memorable one by Sam who ran half the pitch before being brought down. We held them off until the last play when they won the only scrum that they contested all game, the ball was flung out wide and they scored in the corner. Their supporters where ecstatic, It's the happiest I've seen Welsh people for years.

The Wasps team collected their runners up medals (after a recount) proud
that they had played superbly throughout the day. Hard earned medals.

Well played team!
