There is, in modern sport, a lot of Bollocks written about team spirit, and the spirit or traditions of a particular sport, but even the most cynical would have had to admit on Sunday at Twyford Avenue we saw both in abundance.
We start with a professional player on a precious midseason break making the effort to come long to greet a team from his own country. We then had the spectacle of a Wasps team out manned and out gunned from the outset playing 3 half hours of rugby to accommodate at 45 strong Liceo Naval Squad, and never giving up, taking a backward step or letting their heads drop.
Literally players running until they could not run another step.
And then afterwards in the clubhouse as laughter, cheers and chatter filled the air with people divided by an ocean, a hemisphere and 7,000 miles, but united by their love of this precious game.
It was heady stuff and a memorable day for us all, made possible by a lot of work and effort by the club, its workers and volunteers.
I have absolutely no idea what the score was, we were well beaten, but we have 24 brand new heroes today and they all played for Wasps Colts.
